Barrow Multiple Sclerosis Center

Barrow Neurological Institute offers medical care, support services, and referrals to community resources to individuals with multiple sclerosis.  Barrow researchers endeavor to understand multiple sclerosis and to find new ways to treat it.

The Team

Specialists from many fields provide care to multiple sclerosis patients to address the many ways the disease can affect individuals.

Neurology.  Initially, a neurologist evaluates patients to determine the diagnosis, to enroll eligible patients into research studies, to monitor the disease process and the effect of medications, and to make referrals to appropriate specialists.  The neurologist also evaluates the patient's balance, walking disorders, and numbness that can be associated with multiple sclerosis.

Physiatry.  A physiatrist, a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, works with patients to develop an overall plan for the patient's rehabilitation.

Ophthalmology.  An ophthalmologist evaluates and treats various visual problems.

Urology.  A urologist evaluates and treats bladder or urinary tract problems.

Audiology.  An audiologist evaluates hearing problems.

Speech pathology.  A speech and language pathologist evaluates and addresses speech difficulties.

Physical therapy and occupational therapy.  Barrow's comprehensive rehabilitation programs provide therapy for walking, movement, balance or sensation.

Neuropsychology.  A neuropsychologist offers support and treatment for various emotional and psychological issues.
